Helping kids move on!
Sometimes things happen in life and we need to just let go and move on. Erik got a taste of this and it was a good thing for him. One of his best friends had her birthday and it was a all girl princess one that they went to get their hair done. When Erik found out, needless to say he didn't handle it well. Then I reminded him that he got to go to some friends birthday parties that were only for boys because he is a boy and the only reason that she didn't invite him was because it is only for girls and he isn't one. It took him a little bit to get it all and come to terms with it, but he did and later I decided that we should have our own party. So, I pulled Erik aside and told him my idea, and he loved it.
We got a cookie out and put a candle on it...
then we took a wrapped a bracelet that I had made and I knew that she had liked, and we sang to her.
They jumped and had a great old time. I was really proud of Erik to get past it and let it go, and then was able to have fun and celebrate with his friend still. (Although he has informed me that his birthday party next year will only be for boys.. I guess we'll decided that when it gets closer.) This also helped his friend not to feel to bad about not inviting him. It worked out perfect!
